The Launch

  • Students will reflect on their reading lives and develop habits and strategies to help them grow as readers. 

  • Aligned with the CCSS, students will read with accuracy and fluency so that comprehension is a main focus. 

  • Students will also be setting goals for themselves that allow them to read with purpose.

Reading like a 21st Century Researcher:

Students will analyze informational text that relates across content areas. Readers will use tools and strategies to grasp the features and structures of informational text to better be able to comprehend informational text. When reading like a   researcher, students will come to understand that they need certain skills to tackle informational text in order to gather a strong understanding of text read.


Turning Research into Writing:

When writing about a complex issue or topic, it is important to present findings in a clear and organized way. In informational writing, writers draw conclusions based on research, not opinion, and they present their findings in a factual way.
