Grade 8 TV Production

8th grade television production program introduces television technology into the classroom. The purpose is to give our students a real world experience while maintaining a classroom environment.  Each day the class performs a live television broadcast. This broadcast can be viewed by the entire student body. Besides learning the technical aspect of live production, the students also learn that teamwork is an intricate component to making our show a success.

Students in TV studio classes work in collaborative groups to write, edit, and air TV shows.  Shows are designed to responsibly inform our viewers of happenings around the school, community and world.

Each show requires students to assume a variety of roles; audio engineer, camera, character generator, director, floor manager, talent, and teleprompter.  Each role plays an important part of the total show. Roles are rotated to allow students an opportunity to sample each.

This experience will provide students the opportunity to develop skills in the following areas:

  • Oral presentation skills
  • Individual and cooperative decision making
  • Safe and correct operation of all broadcast equipment
  • Research skills
  • Persuasive and expository writing
  • Project management
  • Artistic expression
  • Self confidence
  • Responsibility
  • Professionalism
