General Science Information

Please bring all Science Supplies to class each day:

  • Science binder
  • Charged Chromebook
  • Pens/Pencils
  • Earbuds
  • Highlighters
  • Planner

Expectations and Grading:

  • Students need to be prepared for class every day.  This includes bringing all of the required materials.  Participation grade will be lowered if unprepared for class.
  • Science grade will be based on several forms of assessment: tests and quizzes, inquiry-based investigations and projects, labs, performance tasks and design challenges, homework, and class participation.

  • Grades will be lowered on late work. Students will lose 10 points if one day late, and 20 points if two days late.  Only half credit will be given for an assignment handed in on day 3 or 4.  A zero will be given if the assignment is not handed in by the fourth day.  When students are absent, it is their responsibility to find out about missing assignments.  They should check the teacher’s webpage, google classroom, and/or check in with the teacher after an absence.

  • Formal assessments, such as tests and quizzes, will be announced several days in advance. However, students are expected to participate in daily class discussions and activities.  Therefore, it is very important to keep up with all assignments, maintain an organized binder, and review content material presented in class. Students should be reviewing even if no “formal” homework is assigned for a particular night.

  • Safety in the Science Laboratory is very important. Students must follow all safety rules and directions as outlined in the  “safety contract” signed at the beginning of the school year.

“The Ho-Ho-Kus Public School is committed to a high standard of academic excellence in compliance with the
