I will be sending home information about ideas to prevent the "summer slide".   Please check your child's folder for summer reading and/or math packets that provide review  of grade level concepts.  You will also receive a summer reading list based on your child's present level of reading.

Thanks you for all your support this year.  I have thoroughly enjoyed working with your children and watching them grow as learners!  They are amazing!!

Have  a wonderful summer!

Grade 2 - Fluency

This week's passage is Summer Fun. Read passage each night "scooping" the words for smoothness and expression.

Grade 2 - Comprehension

We will continue to work on how readers use synthesizing to help make meaning as we read Herbie Sails into Second Grade.  We will  also be paying close attention to how characters act, feel, words they say, and how they meet challenges . We will also be thinking about their traits and looking for evidence to prove their thinking.

Grade 3 - Fluency

Read passage each night for expression and awareness of  punctuation and expression.  Remember to be aware of punctuation! This week's passage is Cara Wins the Race.

Grade 3 - Reading

Our unit on biographies has brought our readers to a new level of understanding when reading.  We have been ramping up our comprehension strategies : creating a timeline, learning new vocabulary, and understanding how our characters overcome obstacles to achieve, and theme.  We also continue our work with informational texts.  Our passages have taken us to many areas of the world - the Rain Forest, the Grand Canyon, the Amazon, King Tut's tomb, the Old Man in the Mountain in New Hampshire.  It's so wonderful to see their excitement as they learn about their world while keeping tracks of their thinking and determining the main idea.
