Economics Unit Overview

In this unit, we will be studying the different ways in which people try to get the resources they need and want.  Three essential questions we will attempt to answer:

  1. What makes a resource important?

  2. Why do societies adopt different economic systems?

  3. Is economic success more about competition or cooperation?

In order to answer these questions, we will be studying several ancient and medieval cultures, including: Imperial China, West Africa, and Medieval Europe.

Individual Business Plan due February 7th. We will start working on this in class on Monday January 28th.

Final Product - Create a Business Plan - Due Thursday, February 7th. We will finish the Business Plan Presentations during the week of February 11th!

Learn about what a “business plan” actually is:

Decide what your business plan idea is.  You have two choices:

  • Create a plan/proposal on how to make our school store more successful.  We will be sending proposals to our current school store representatives on the student council.

  • Create a plan for a new business idea that you have.  This could be a business idea that you could start now as a middle school student or an idea that you would like to start later in your life.

Begin creating your business plan.  Examples of finished products:

  • Typed on Google Docs.

  • Presented as a slideshow on Google Slides.

  • Constructed on a poster.

  • Another idea approved by M. Smolyn

Use the rubric to guide you in creating your business plan...
